Grab some olive oil from your pantry and apply a small amount to your fingertip and gently massage in circular motions. Olive oil is great, not only does it moisturize but it improves blood circulation which leaves your lips looking plump and rosy.

Benefits of Olive Oil:

Contains Vitamin E and polyphenols which helps to protect the lip from radical damage thus promotes healing
It has Anti-Inflammatory properties
It repairs the skin’s natural barrier function
Safe and well- tolerated

So here’s the scoop:

Apply a small amount of olive oil on your lips
Massage the oil

DIY Natural Lip Stain Recipe:

Recipe 1: Subtle

Crush strawberries or raspberries and extract the juice.
Mix the berry juice with coconut oil.
Apply the mixture to your lips for a natural tint.

Recipe 2: Not so Subtle

Ingredients

1 small beetroot
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon honey
Small storage container with a lid

Instructions

Wash and peel the beetroot.
Cut the beetroot and blend the pieces until you achieve a smooth, liquid consistency. You can add a small amount of water, if needed.
To extract the juice, strain the blended beetroot using a sieve or cheesecloth. Collect the beetroot juice in a bowl.

Sunscreen: Sun Blast

Don’t you love the sun?

It’s always so bright and welcoming, however, you can’t look at it directly since your eyes are going to hurt. That’s why we wear sunglasses – to protect our eyes from the sun. But what if I told you just like our eyes another body part is not a big fan of the sun. In fact, with the sun we will age like a grape turning into a raisin.

There’s one thing that we always forget before heading out, unless we go to the beach for a fun day!

Our Sunscreen!

Has this ever happened to you?

You just run out the door, get into the uber and take off in your busy busy day.

Or what about heading to work or to the cafe sitting next to a window. The sun is still present. The sun seeps into the window and onto your beautiful skin. Now don’t get me wrong Rakstars, the sun is the sun. But it’s not the sun that we have a problem with, it’s the overexposure to the sun’s harmful rays. The UVA and UVB rays can cause us to mature faster (wrinkles, anyone?) and can cause skin cancer later on.

Thus, SPF comes in. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. When you enter the store, you see a list of sunscreens saying SPF 30, SPF 50, SPF 60, well this tells you how much protection you are getting from the sun. So how does it work, let me tell you:

SPF is a numerical measure that tells you the effectiveness of the sunscreen to protect your skin from the dangerous UVB rays which is the reason why we sunburn. The number on the sunscreen represents the multiplier of the time you can stay in the sun without getting burned compared to if you had no protection at all.

For example, let’s say you would burn in the sun after 15 minutes without sunscreen, then a SPF 30 would theoretically work like this.

30 (SPF) x 15 minutes = 450 minutes

450 minutes is the new time it will take you to burn.

What does each SPF mean?

Low SPF (15-30): Provides moderate protection. Ideal for everyday activities with limited sun exposure.
Medium SPF (30-50): Offers higher protection and is suitable for extended outdoor activities.
High SPF (50+): Provides maximum protection, recommended for those with fair or sensitive skin or during intense sun exposure.

It’s important to note that the increase in protection isn’t what you think. SPF 30 is not double to SPF 15. For example, SPF 30 filters about 97% of UVB rays, while SPF 50 filters about 98%. The higher you go in SPF, the smaller the incremental increase in protection.

Protection Against UVB and UVA:

UVB rays are responsible for sunburn, but UVA rays also contribute to skin maturation and can lead to skin cancer. While SPF primarily measures protection against UVB, broad-spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVB and UVA rays. Look for sunscreens labeled as “broad-spectrum” to ensure you are covered and protected. You should even wear sunscreen during the cold months like winter, wearing a minimum SPF 15 and in the summer, minimum should be at least SPF 30.

The sunlight bounces off the screen and hits your face with the rays and not only that, blue light can have an impact. You have heard of blue light alright. I mean where do we start? Computers, phones and our fun gadgets – we can’t live without. It’s ingrained into our everyday routine. However, blue light can cause skin troubles such as aging and make dark spots worse. Put the sunscreen on!
