Stress vs No Stress. Is it actually stress?
In life, we take many things for granted and our stressors. Are they really stressors?
For instance, trying to start a business but you are overwhelmed by the choices, the finances and of course everything in between. Yes, starting a business is a lot – but you should be privileged that you can start a business. Most people can’t. They have to work hourly wage jobs so that they can survive and pay the rent that they can’t afford.
Let’s try another example, working in a tedious unfulfilling job role – you hate it so much that you think your life is miserable and it’s the worst thing on earth. I promise you, it’s not. Have you ever gone to a hospital? I don’t think I need to say much, but your life is nothing compared to anyone else’s. You are in a much better situation through the lenses of those patients.
Still can’t resonate, let’s try again. What if you are a student – stressed with exams, assignments and a lot of quizzes. It’s a lot, it’s painful and all you want to do is scream. But hey, wait a second. You have the ability and privilege to go to school. In other countries, third world countries, kids don’t have the opportunity to attend.
So now take a look at your stressors – are they really stressors or is it actually a privilege? It’s a privilege to have tests, assignments, quizzes. It’s a privilege to have a job that you hate. It’s a privilege to start that business.
In a world, where we take stress on our shoulders, it is sometimes unbearable. But that’s only when you look at the glass half empty, look on the other side, there you see potential for greater things.
So Rakstars, try it out – speak to people that are older than you – see what’s on their mind, enlighten them with your stressors and ask them for help solving it. You will see, through age comes wisdom and the way people see things can help you solve that stressor you’ve been facing in a quick fix.
Don’t have anyone to talk to? Go to a retirement home. Seriously, go! Sign up as a volunteer – seniors love it and the matter of fact, they would love to share to you their advice and life lessons they have learnt along the way. Sometimes, we can’t see eye to eye with our stressors, but solutions pop up out of nowhere – seriously it can come from the craziest of craziest storms.
So the next time you are stressed, think of your stress from the other side – is the glass really half empty or is it actually half full?
Is this a life or death situation or is it actually a privilege?
Remember, you might not be in control of the outcome, but you are certainly in control of your stress level. Your body is as human as you – don’t go breaking it.
Take it with a pinch of salt and pepper and breathe!! You got this, Rakstars.
